Abstract. This commentary challenges views of left populism as the normative desirable path for radical democracy. It disentangles populist diagnosis of the failures and deficits of democracy from its solutions. To sum up, if radical democracy does not go far enough, according to decolonial thinking, then it is important to acknowledge how liberal democratic principles are entangled with the still-present darker side of modernity. More importantly, it is crucial to explore how democratic education, through adopting agonistic pedagogies and radical What Is It. Radical democracy, on the other hand, tries to build consensus around difference, and challenge oppressive power relationships. But what are the risks of radical democracy? This article explores some of the central challenges presented by decolonial thought to other critical, progressive, or emancipatory theories, especially theories of radical democracy.
